Vineyard and Winery
Nestled in the midst of the Bankhead National Forest, and named after the Sipsey Wilderness. Sipsey Vineyard and Winery highlights the proud history of wine-making in the Southern Appalachian Region of the United States, while passionately producing quality wines and ciders in the beautiful "Free-State" of Winston County Alabama.
Wooden barrels of various designs have been in use for thousands of years. The barrel as we know it (multiple pieces of wood bent into shape by fire) is thought to have been invented by Spanish Celts sometime around the fifth century BC.
Sipsey Vineyard and Winery practices the age-old technique of primary production of wines and ciders in wooden barrels (while embracing modern technology to monitor the progress and quality of the wine).
At Sipsey Vineyard and Winery, environmental conservation is a core value as we strive to produce sustainable wines. We work hard to find a balance between production and preservation.
We follow a combination of organic, non-organic, and biodynamic practices that are best suited to the surrounding geography and act as stewards of the land while preserving natural resources, repurposing waste, improving air and water quality, and protecting surrounding wildlife habitats.
